WSL 22/23 AVWFC vs Man City

Fairly safe to say this was not the game I expected when I went to Villa Park today! The personnel hasn't changed massively from last season which was a bit of a slog to be fair but where new players have been bought in they bring a lot of talent and an awful lot of experience. Once the game settled down after the first few minutes Villa were playing with a lot more confidence than I'd seen previously - the speed of passing, the movement and the assuredness across the back line were all notable as was the press which seemed to unsettle City and ultimately led to the first goal coming from Alisha Lehman after 22 minutes. 10 minutes later an absolute wonderful strike by the debuting Rachel Daly made it 2-0 and 6000+ fans were in dream land! Unfortunately a really soft goal to concede in injury time just before half time really changed the complexion of the game and no doubt the content of the team talks. Womens Euro 2022

The Women's Euros is over, in case you didn't already know.... it came home!! England winning a big international tournament is a huge, huge deal regardless of the sport or the gender of the participants but this felt extra special! I've watched more and more womens football in tbe last few years and I'm continually - and increasingly - impressed by the quality on display. After many a false start I managed to take my kids to see Aston Villa Women last season and they loved it so we ended up going to several games. If you've not been to watch women's football I highly recommend it! It is very affordable for a start so you get a full afternoon out for probably less than a trip to the cinema. The atmosphere is great, it's very different to the men's game.... fans are not segregated so you're all in there together and you don't seem to hear the toxicity from the stands that you would do.
